PowdermatriX is on the CASE
PowdermatriX is supporting a further four Industrial CASE awards in
2005, which will not only contribute to valuable developments within
its core sector of advanced materials, but will also help to advance
the pharmaceutical sector, which is a regular user of powder technologies.
Funded jointly by companies and the Engineering and Physical Science
Research Council, EPSRC, CASE studentships enable industry to take the
lead in defining projects for students and selecting an academic partner
of their choice. Projects are jointly supervised by the academic and
industrial partners.
PowdermatriX, which shares its home with CERAM, the internationally
renowned centre for materials and technology, based in Stoke-on-Trent,
UK, now supports twelve Industrial CASE projects at universities throughout
Britain. The successful projects resulted from widely publicised open
calls aimed at attracting applications from all comers. The selected
projects represent a mixture of established PowdermatriX partners and
newcomers, building on existing relationships and broadening the network
to draw in new capabilities.
The projects for 2005-6 include; Multiscale Modelling of Gas Atomisation
in Production of Metal Powders, Micro-particulate Powders for the Delivery
of Protein Based Drugs and Toolkit for Air-Induced Segregation in Powder
Handling and Flow for Compaction Processes.
Announcing the awards Stuart MacLachlan of PowdermatriX said: “Companies
are starting to see positive results from the first CASE projects that
we supported two years ago. By sponsoring these important studies, industry
is underlining its commitment to developing materials and technologies
to advance their businesses“.
